Madura coats is the major cotton manufacturing plant of Tuticorin. It was established in year 1877. The mill is located in Beach road. This plant occupies 4.5 acres of land. The mill provides occupation for about 700 people in and around Tuticorin. Single yarn thread and double yarn thread made out of cotton are its products. Its yearly production is about 2400 tons of thread.

1889 - Madura Mills Co. Ltd., was incorporated at Madurai, Ambasamudram and Tuticorin, in Tamil Nadu and the tyre cord factory as located at Serampore in West Bengal, and was engaged in the production of cotton and blended yarns, and industrial fabrics such as tyre cord, canvas and hard duck.
